Primarily golf but many interests
I enjoy history, social causes, and the great fresh air of fall. Presently a Contributing Editor for Golf Digest, my writing has been primarily about golf for more than 35 years but I enjoy studying the game's centuries-old history. I mainly admire the 1950s to 1990s timespan. I had previously been the magazine's Assistant Managing Editor and the Editor of its Resource Center, the latter allowing me to oversee the incredible archive of Golf Digest and Golf World. My passion for golf began during middle school in my hometown of Bloomington, Illinois, and I grooved a somewhat deadly putting stroke on the tiny greens at Highland Park Golf Course, the site of my only round of par golf. It was seeing Golf Digest for sale on Highland's shop counter that put the thought of combining my dual love for golf and journalism into a dream job of working at GD. Prior to the magazine, I had followed highly esteemed sports/golf writers Dave Kindred and Ron Coffman in the same position at The Daily Pantagraph in Bloomington. My on-course achievements are minor but I did win the Editor's Putter championship at Golf Digest twice and due to a brief bit of fortunate play in the company Seitz Cup team match I earned the nickname The Terminator, a label I've long since failed to live up to. I have kept track of all my under-par holes and have more than 550 birdies, a few eagles and one lucky double eagle...at Highland's second hole.
